Valdani Thread Earrings

Valdani Thread Earrings

Valdani Thread Earrings

A while ago I wrote a blog post on Valdani thread…

The pieces that I designed using Romanian Point Lace as a technique are ready. I made a set of earrings, using two threads as a combination.

These threads are amazing for lace making and specially for Romanian Point Lace and Embroidery.

Step by Step Romanian Point Lace Jewellery

Sometimes people think it;s easy and fast to create, to design and to sell. Well, let me tell you it’s not that easy, if it would be, we would all create, design, draw, sew, sell, do advertising, photograph and so much more…..

First of all you need accept and Idea….. an element to start with. It could be anything!

In my case it was the material!

The golden thread and the purple beads! Now I needed to start sketching the idea of a necklace and make it come alive!

E voila!

After the sketch is done, I focus on creating a pattern for it so I can execute the necklace.

After the pattern is done, there is a lot of cord making involved and a lot of design work!

At the end after the necklaces is cleaned and ready to be placed in the shop, voila it;s time for the obligatory

photo shoot.

PS: Let me know how you work step by step!

Happy Women’s Day!

Against all odds….a battle with time

Against all odds….a battle with time

When you work on a new collection, it’s not only takes times but it takes dedication and a lot of rethinking, redesigning and work , work, work…..

Once you set a goal you basically work against time…. against all odds….

So once under time pressure this is one of the songs that I like to listen to while I design, make lace or illustrate.

From a designer point of view…. it;s always a battle with time…. You work like crazy and redesign and set a collection! The more you work on it the more ideas flow in our brain and you are under pressure.

Time is your enemy and I have never experienced one time that I lost against it! BUT, you are out of breath every single time you try to battle it. One minute before a collection gets. out or is photographed you are still there with hook, needle and thread to fix something last minute!

Bullions, bullions….. to needle or to crochet!?

Bullions, bullions….. to needle or to crochet!?

Even as a crafter sometimes you are in a dilemma! Should you needle a bullion or should you crochet!? For those of you who don;t know what the heck I am talking about, watch the video below and for those who know that problem very well, feel free to share your opinion! I would love to hear it!

When I started to create Romanian Point Lace professionally, I love to avoid the bullions. Traditionally they are used for the grape design.

Now this image is from Last Century- Etsy shop and it shows beautifully the grapes – not only in design, colour, texture but also in execution. Now let me tell you these are not easy to make ad it takes time, dedication and perseverance to master them! Once you do, you will feel like you conquer the world! At least the Romanian Point Lace world!

So to make it easy, I started to create some videos on these bullions! Once you master them, you can create all kind of bullions! Size, shape, 3D, etc….

Are you ready for the bullions? [kad_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3cLTlLIpFU”]

Now here comes the dilemma…..

How do you create the bullions? Do you use the needle method, or do you crochet it out?

I tried both and I have to say, that the needle method is better for me. I find it easy, faster specially when I have to create quite a few bullions and it looks better.

If you want to try the crochet version, you  need to keep in mind that you need a different type of crochet hook! Make sure you use a lace crochet hook.

The lace crochet hooks that I am using are from JMRA- 0,75 and 1.00mm In the image it’s the polymer clay crochet hook and the blue yellow one. The caly crochet hook was custom made by Moira’s Gifts A gorgeous etsy shop that you need to check out!

After posting the needle version, I have been asked to create a video with the crochet version… e voilà !

I use the bullion design for my jewellery line or to decorate gift wraps….. What are or  will you use it for?
