Threads, threads, threads….

Threads, threads, threads….

In the world of crochet, knit, lace making, bobbin, Irish crochet, there is a lot to pick from when it comes to threads….

Do you have a favourite thread to work with? I sure do…. and I am pretty sure if you are a professional in the fibre world and you deal on a daily base with yarn and thread you have.

When it comes to cotton, I have to say that DMC is always first- it;s expensive but it does a fabulous job. Not only that it is great to work with but it keeps it;s shape and that is what you want, when it comes to Irish lace and Romanian Point Lace (RPL)  at least.

Now when we do not talk about cotton, I love to work with viscose. It its light, easy to crochet the cord with for the Romanian Lace and it has a nice luxurious finish. Here as well we have many brands to work with.

Today I want to introduce two of my favourite that I love to crochet with and to make lace.

WP_20160414_10_36_19_Pro These are both from Yarn- Paradise and one is from the brand ICE Yarns named MIMOSA and the other is also from ICE Yarns but called YarnArt TULIP

They are both Viscose Microfibre and differ just a little in price. Both are great to work with and give a pleasant finish to your projects.

MIMOSA  is slightly a bit more rigid, that means it;s great for lace projects that are meant to be as home decoration or for jewellery.

6tag_040416-130116 It has more body and can handle the  a 3D design. It is very flexible and stretchable.  WP_20160414_10_48_58_Rich

The YarnArt TULIP is also very great does a very good job, BUT is softer and your finger will thank you. Specially if you tent to have a very tight tension, when you crochet, knit or doing RPL.

You can feel the difference, once you touch the threads. The TULIP is very soft, great for knitting, crochet and I love to use it for embroidery.

If there is any thread you like to work with, feel free to let me know! Also tell me about your experience with these brands or other microfibre, viscose, cotton, etc…

Homage Handmade….Why I do what I do ….

Homage Handmade….Why I do what I do ….

Why I do what I do….. I create ‪‎handmade‬ fashion accessories‬ unnamed (40)and clothing‬ that is done purely by ‪‎hand‬! Some people ask why…. ?! Because the roots of true ‪‎fashion‬ are thehands‬, the #hands that ‪‎create‬, and make you the buyer‬ feel truly unique‬ and original‬. Because this was the beginning and ‪‎tradition‬ that needs to stay alive! Because we want to be individuals and we need to stay out in the crowd, especially ‪‎today‬ where everything is not only massproduction‬, but ‪‎fast‬, and‪ ‎mediocre‬ ‪‎quality‬ !

We live in a worldhat no eyes of ‪‎consume‬, a world of throw away‬ and to own a piece that is truly made with‪‎love‬, dedication‬, sweat‬ and ‪‎blood‬ is not only‪ ‎rare‬ but ‪‎priceless‬! Not many understand the value‬ of ‪‎true handmade‬ and I believe it;s time to make it clear to the next generations!

If we continue like this, one day we wear‪‎ clothes‬ out of pure ‪‎plastic‬!

Make the‪‎ world‬ more beautiful and wear originals! That is why I do what I do! I live for #handmade and unique designs!

So welcome  my little world of design!

Why RPL …..?!

Why RPL …..?!

I was never stressed out in my life… and even if I was, I never have seen it as stress, if you know what I mean. Life was good to me. Others might see it very different. Born premature, always under care and having a leg issue, yes it can cause stress. I guess I got used to it = no stress! Creating lace every day for at least a few hours it takes the stress away! You dive into a peaceful world almost like a trance and when you are done you are reborn , it;s almost like a massage for your soul… at least to me!

But back to RPL so you understand why…. I have been surrounded by rpl and knew how to do it even before I could walk!

Now  don’t imagine I sit there with needles and and calico creating piece after piece….my dear grandma did and I paid attention. When we went shopping for thread I knew how much she needed , what brand, everything from the gecko. It got to a point where I picked the basic materials for her.

I remember her words so clear…. No, don;t touch dear, scumpa lu mama, faci tu mai tarziu … you will do it  later my dear….And I remember thinking, No I will not! Oh well here I am sitting with lace around me, calico, thread hooks, needles and vintage pattern.

Anna my dear grandma has Alzheimer, she can’t remember but as soon as she sees a piece of lace she smiles. She calls is beautiful and touches it with great care. Always telling me to be gentile and careful with it.

DSCF7681While writing this blogpost I roll a small ball of Rpl cord. The thread is vintage, – I can;t use it, not because it;s old but because it;s from a very special lady… Doamna Luscu. She was very famous for creating RPL and she had the best filling! People were always amazed at her level of speed! Her cords were legendary!

When I met her the first time she gave me a tiny ball of cord and said – carry on our tradition.

And guess what… this is what I do years later!

I don’t know if this is my calling in life or just a away to stay in touch with my roots but also with my grandma.

Now you know why…..
