Inspiration is Key

Inspiration is Key

Inspiration is Key ….

And when you think you find inspiration in the most simple common things on earth, I bet you never looked at a key. For every project, Inspiration is key….

Have you ever paid attention to the simplicity of a key that opens a chamber? Have a look at these keys that are a mystery, a key to opening a secret, or door that opens your universe to a completely new idea…. these keys are vintage, old, handmade and lead  my mind to think about French doors, lifestyle and elegant fashion. They give inspiration to Romanian Point Lace Designs and to lace making. Motives that can be moved in repetitive positions, or one design.

The way the iron is forged, elegant and in line, curved from hot to freezing cold, warming in hands, this is how the cord, forms on the calico in elegant , organic shapes, that give birth to a design to stay. Maybe even a touch of embroidery if gold or silver is added to the key…. The possibilities are endless.

And once you have the key as inspiration, the thread is following like the devil in the dark , so escape from it. A sweet pleasure to pick and try… Like the forbidden fruits.

What precious thread will be transformed into a precious design ? Only you are the key to that!

Is it the powerful, Amethyst, the fabulous  Jade, etc…. ? Make it happen because Inspiration is the key…..

What is your inspiration?

XO,

Lorena

PS: Hope inspiration is your key….

Introducing Beverley’s Delight by Lyn Coultas

Introducing Beverley’s Delight by Lyn Coultas

Introducing Beverley’s Delight …..

Beverley’s Delight, this is a first for me as well. I never purchased a pattern for a doily since I focus on lace pattern, but this one was catching my eye and I love it. Please check out Beverley’s Delight

This pattern is funky, new, and such a delight like it said! Every time I try or want to work on a pattern I deal with picking out thread! AHhhhhhhh…. What about you? But enough of my threads hoarding issue, let’s get back to Lyn Coultas and her funky design.

If you like crochet groups and like to follow Lyn’s Designs she has a Facebook Group here.

Please introduce yourself?

My name is Lyn Coultas. I live in Queensland, Australia, with my wonderful husband, David and 2 of my 3 children – my eldest son is at University. I’m 45yrs old. I work with my husband as a Handyman. I really enjoy the variety of jobs from one day to the next, and I’m always learning something new. I started crocheting 20+ yrs ago. I learned to crochet using books from my local library. I used to only crochet in Winter, learning something new each year. About 4 yrs ago, Winter ended and I haven’t stopped crocheting since ?. I started out making scarves and hats, then moved on to amigurumi and flowers, and then I started crocheting baby items (booties, hats, headbands and dresses).

How did you start to design doilies?

My wonderful friend Paul, introduced me to Grace Fearon’s designs. I immediately fell in love with textured doilies! At some point, he suggested I design my own doilies and so, “Beverley’s Delight” was born lol. I really enjoyed the process and the result.

Where can we find you on social media?

I have a facebook group, “Purple Crochet Designs” that folks can join if they have any questions about my patterns, or want share their photos of my designs that they’ve made, and to “get the scoop” on my upcoming designs. I love to see the different colours and combinations others use when making my designs ?

What can you tell us about your next project/design?

My newest design, “Oh My Stars” is nearing the end of being tested (thank you my fabulous testers!), and will be published shortly.

Would you consider designing something else or will doilies be your domain?

I honestly don’t know. For now, I love using thread and designing doilies, but who knows what the future will bring?

Well ladies,  I am looking forward to see the next design, Oh My Stars…….

XO,

Lorena

Oh Bullions , oh Bullions you drive me crazy…..Ode to Bullions

Oh Bullions , oh Bullions you drive me crazy…..Ode to Bullions

Ode to Bullions

Yeah Ode to Bullions….

Are yo making Crochet bullions and they drive you nuts? You are at the right place . Check the videos below and your pain should be over… hopefully! If not again Ode to Bullions

For the love of Bullions get the right crochet hook in the first place or you die of frustration! I am serious about! No right hook, no bullion! No money, no funny!

There are three parts when it comes to creating the bullion!

Part one the base, making the right size donut! And here you can cheat galore! LOL Yup, you can cheat in crochet and lace making ! Is that new to you darling?

Once the base is done, you can do the second part the wrapping! Part Two  Oh well the wrapping, it’s a story for itself. There are golden

rules like 16, 18, 22. Do not raise  your eyebrows now at the screen or at me, yup there are rules, BUT that does not mean you can;t break them 🙂

16 , 18, 22 are the individual strings that form a bullion. One wrap to form a bullion can have 16 wraps on the hook, ( you see in the video) or 18 wraps or 22… oh well talking about braking rules, my have 25 wraps!

Part Three

Now this part most of people like to skip not knowing the insanity of it! You skip this part and your bullion is flat. On top of it it dies not have volume and is useless, at least to get a job in the button industry or as grape for Romanian Point Lace. For this part you need a tapestry needle or a larger sewing needle.

Follow the video instructions.

And now you know about #BULLIONS !

Do you have a technique to create bullions ? Let me see your bullions!

Lorena

T-shirt yarn basket Great Home Decor Basket

Sometimes you simply need a cup of tea and one skein of T-shirt yarn and you are ready to crochet away!

This will be a gift basket for my mum. I purchased some yarn for her and want to presented in a nice way. So here we go three hours later.

I use for that Fast Track T-shirt yarn provided by Lion Brand Yarns – a fabulous brand that is in my Top ten threads and yarns !

Check it out if you have time.

Love the yarn. It;s flat, wide, the grey is divine and feels great on the skin. It will make a great basket.

And yes, you see write , my marker is a bobbin pin for the hair. Don;t laugh it;s easy to use not like the professional marker sometimes are hard to open. I am using a size 10mm crochet hook and if you hurry up so much to get it done in a few hours it;s better to tape your fingers! Blister alert!

And now I ma ready to go! Taped up no blister can build up! A few more rows to go and I am done! I am telling you this colour is divine! Lion Brand Yarns you rock!

The basket is 25 cm wide and 15 cm tall with a base of 15 x 15 cm in square. So one skein, makes a great size basket!

How long did it take you to make a basket?

Colouring…..

Colouring…..

Colouring…..

Adult colouring….. it;s not only a trend I hope so….

Adult colouring is about finding the time to relax, to battle with insomnia, with anxiety and stress.

I started a while ago to teach Art therapy and understood years ago what it means to colour, to deal with colours , via my day job as a designer. Understanding the colours and the way they make us feel, is not a light subject, and maybe via this wonderful art adult colouring books trend, it will be easy to understand for more people.

While teaching art therapy it became clear that colours are very important to people, probably more then they think or see. So I continue to dig deeper into the world of art therapy and did a course on Reiki and art therapy. It;s like a new world of possibilities open up and even I as a pro on colours understand it better.

I started to work a while ago on an adult colouring book that actually triggers the therapy part of the colouring. The way the elements are put together for example the water lily dress in the image above… it has a colour combination that is relaxing… green for the leaves that not only stands for HOPE , relation to nature and love and self -love. It symbolises also a balance of give and take. Because it sits in the middle of the colour wheel, it shows that it’s capable of a great visible balance.

The complementary colour is RED so the water lilies can be red or red related…..

I believe that by using to colour this page, with the corespondent colours, Green, white, red, etc…. to match reality it;s relaxing for the heart. Every colour is measured in Terahertz. GREEN for example, has a frequency of 580-530 thz.

The associated Chakra for Green is the Heart and the related organs are the Heart and the breasts. So, you see how colours are very important!

It;s also very important that when you colour, maybe try to escape and relax into a fantasy world of colours. Fact is you deal with reality all the time so it;s time to escape into a world of colour.

The image above is an escape into a world of fantasy. A cocktail glass with a landscape inside and a pack of fries with a lipstick in it. Have a giggle and relax! Life is short to be so serious!

Or how about this one a funky sunflower crown portrait with funky waffle blueberry pendant earrings? So go crazy and colour!

Soon this book will be available as a PDF format. You ask why pdf? Well many reasons…. I did some research and some serious thinking how to publish , how to make is convenient for people. So here are my PROS for bringing it out as PDF format.

  • You can pick the paper you actually want to use, that way you can pick your medium easy as well.
  • So if you want to work in watercolour, most books can;t take water, because it will bleed on the other page and it will might be damaged
  • We all have in every book a favourite page and post of us start to colour that particular page! Well when it;s in a pdf format, you can reprint as many as you like and try to colour that same page in many other colours, building a series of the same piece.
  • You can frame it easy with out damaging a book.
  • It makes a great gift, if you want to give a single art piece to a loved one or a friend.
  • Another benefit is that you can change the size of the page and make it larger or smaller according to your needs
  •  I believe one more benefit would be to be able to colour online as well, if you would like to do that as well. It can be easily be transformed into a desktop background.

I know the CONS  would be that you need to print is first and that you can;t have it hand first, but once that love for colouring is there is should not be such a burden.

I will bring it out as a PDF first and if the demand is there I will bring out a limited edition version of it as a traditional book. But the limited edition one needs to be pre ordered! It will be available on the website in the shop section Books, Kits and Pattern.

What do you think about adult colouring books? Would you buy pdf or hand copy?

Lorena

Ito….Thread

Ito….Thread

ITO…..

Ito means String or, thread , yarn in Japanese a cleaver name for a fabulous brand that stands out in the world of yarns and threads. If you never heard of them now it;s time to discover them! They are stunning. I received a few different threads to test out from paper thread, to steel blends and pure silk, etc…

I am intrigued by the quality and the fine design of the paper that it holds the information on. Strong to hold the cone and elegant fine that it almost not touching the thread. ITO  is brand to stay in the market of yarns. Is makes a mark in quality and style. Please visit the website and check out the free pattern the varieties of colours, inside brands, yarns  , needles, etc…

I received beautiful blends and fabulous colours. I started to experiment with Serishin Silk Colour  Marsala and created a Romanian Point Lace Design. My goal is to find out what other type of threads and yarns work for Romanian Point Lace to give Romanian Point Lace lovers more options. Cotton is great and traditional, but there must be something else out there for this ancient lace and I believe to have found it in ITO brand.

Serishin is a luxurious silk yarn with a tremendous sheen and structure. It hold together great an is not weak. Marsala is soft and has a fabulous feeling while working with it. The colour is stunning and vibrant. Great on the skin and I can say that I would use it for lace making, clothing. This brand is also good for crochet and knitting. Its a fluid thread that creates a great crochet or knit fabric. A luxury and privilege to create with.

At the moment I am working on other projects using the other cones of threads received. I am exited to try out mixing the stainless steel TETSU.

The silk and Stainless steel can be formed and create a fabulous design. I believe that it makes a great Romanian Lace as well as great for knitting.
If you work with this brand before, please let me know, I am very interested in your opinion.

What makes this brand so great, is that it;s placed on a cone.

So make sure you stay tuned to the updates.

XO,

Lorena
